At Whitney United Methodist Church we believe that we are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our community. Our mission is to feed our community Spiritually, Intellectually and Physically.
All of our ministries welcome new members and new ideas.
Praise Band
Currently there are three musicians who make up the Six Ways to Sunday Band. They usually practice on Thursday evenings and again 1 hour before worship on Sunday mornings.
Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir practices on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. and again one-half hour before worship on Sunday Mornings.
Prayer & Share
A small group that meets every Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. for a short Bible study and then to talk about where each person has seen God in the past week.
We Pray Prayer team
This group meets on Fridays at 11:00 a.m. to pray over the list of prayer concerns. They also coordinate the Prayer Requests.
Whitney Women’s Christmas Brunch
All of the women of the church are invited annually to the Whitney Women’s Brunch on the first Saturday of December. Everyone is asked to bring a pair of warm children’s shoes/boots and/or warm socks for distribution at Whitney Elementary School.
Celia Cowan Circle
This group meets every third Tuesday at 1 p.m. for fellowship at the church.
Manna (Inactive)
At 6:00 p.m. on the fourth Sundays of each month attendees of Whitney bring a potluck dish to share with others. You can expect great food, fellowship, laughter, and an evening to get to know others within the church.
Stephen Ministry (inactive)
Stephen Ministers learn how to take care of people appropriately, compassionately and faithfully. They provide one-on-one confidential meetings when requested. Whitney served as an active Stephen Ministry church from 2002 until 2017. Forty seven from Whitney attended the 50 hours of training to learn techniques to be open, focused and prepared to be extremely caring listeners.
United Women in Faith
Our United Women in Faith meet on the first Wednesday of each month and are actively involved in the outreach ministries of the church, including Whitney Elementary School, and are committed to awarding a scholarship to a graduating high school senior with a Whitney connection each year.
United Methodist Men (inactive)
United Methodist Men meet on the first Saturday Morning at 9:00 a.m. for breakfast, devotions and a brief meeting.
Sunday Evening Study Class (Inactive at this time)
This class meets on Sunday evenings for supper and study. The study changes each season.
Disaster Relief
UMCOR is the humanitarian relief and development arm of The United Methodist Church. They assists United Methodists and churches to become involved globally in direct ministry to persons in need. When a global or domestic disaster occurs, Whitney assembles Care Kits for UMCOR to distribute to the disaster areas.
Family Camp
All of Whitney is eagerly invited to attend this Whitney Family Camp held at Camp Sawtooth on the 2nd weekend of August each year. Food is provided. There is a minimum charge for adults with no charge for those under the age of 18.
Shawlers
The knitting needles, crochet hooks, fellowship and laughter start at 2 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of every month. The group’s crocheted or knitted prayer shawls are blessed by the pastor and then are given to those who are struggling with trauma, depression, needing comfort, bereavement and other challenges. If there is a person needing a prayer shawl to wrap God’s love around them, just contact the church office to obtain one.
