Food and Clothing Ministry

At Whitney United Methodist Church our mission is to feed our community Spiritually, Intellectually and Physically. We believe that we are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our community. The ways that we feed our community physically are through the following programs:

Food and Clothing Ministry:

~Community Dinner – Third Friday of every month as we serve a hot meal to our neighbors.  Meal is served at 6:00

Ways you can be involved: People are needed to help cook, set up, serve and clean up.

~Saturday Lunch – Every Saturday morning from 10-12:30 as we prepare sack lunches for people in our zip code.

Ways you can be involved:  People are needed to help make the sack lunches and to help give them out.

~St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry – Food given through the Choice Food Pantry to those in need in our community 5 days a week. The Pantry is located just down the street from the church at 3209 Overland Rd.  It is open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 10-2.  Wednesday from 2:30-6:30 and Saturday from 9-noon.  It is closed on Sunday and Monday.

Ways you can be involved:  People are needed to help people who come into the pantry.

~Joseph’s Closet—Our warm clothing ministry where we give coats, hats, gloves, and scarves to those in our neighborhood who need them.  Joseph’s Closet will open on October 20 from 5:30-7:00.  Then it will be open every Wednesday from 3:30-5:00 and every Saturday from 10:30- Noon and every third Friday from 5:30-7:00.

Ways you can be involved: People are needed to donate coats, hats, gloves and scarves for all ages and sizes. Money is needed to help pay the cost of the trailer rent to operate the closet. People are also needed to help run the closet on Wednesday afternoons, Saturday mornings and the third Friday of the month.

If you are interested in helping with any of these programs, please call the church office.  208-343-2892.
