The members of Whitney United Methodist Church welcome you to our website. We want to meet you and learn from you more about our neighbors. We also want you to know about our church and outreach work. Your suggestions can help us.
Whitney United Methodist Church is a gathering of joyful, excited followers of Jesus Christ who feed our community Spiritually, Intellectually and Physically. Our Mission Focus is to disciple, serve and provide resources to children and families. If you are looking for a place to worship or serve the community, some of our activities may interest you. You are invited to like us on Facebook (Whitney United Methodist Church); watch our calendar at www.whitneyumc.org; or come and see what we are about.
We feed our community Spiritually through weekly worship on Sunday morning at 10:00am. Worship uses both traditional liturgy and music blended with more casual ways of worshiping to create a space where we can experience and worship the risen God. We have Communion on the First Sunday of the month. We have an adult choir, a youth choir and a praise band that assist with worship, and we are glad to have new members in these groups.
In addition to the worship service, we offer a nursery for very young children and Sunday school for children and youth. We also have Bible Study for Adults and have small Prayer and Share community groups that allow people to share their faith journey with others.
We feel a deep calling to feed our community physically out of the example of Christ. We participate in three feeding programs. Every Saturday, we serve a sack lunch to those in our neighborhood to help tide people over on the weekends. On the third Friday of the month, we serve a hot meal to our neighborhood at 6:00 pm. We also participate in the St. Vincent dePaul Food Bank located at 3209 Overland Rd. During the winter months we also have a warm clothing ministry we call Joseph’s closet that has coats, hats, gloves and warm clothes for those that need them.
We are actively seeking new ways to serve our community and invite you to participate in this endeavor. Should we meet for some activities in different locations? Do we need to translate materials into another language? We welcome you to think with us about how to make such things happen. We look forward to seeing you again and to knowing you better.
We are excited about who we are as a church and about our calling to be a part of this neighborhood and to disciple, serve and provide resources to children and families. We would love to have you come and see what God is doing in our midst. If you have questions or wish for additional information, stop by our office Monday-Friday from 9:00 am until noon, or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
